But now for the most exciting part - awards:

goes to The Galactic Senate - a project that aims at kickstarting an animation movie series that lets people interact and participate in it.

Bloomstar GmbH is one of the first companies that offers a flower subscription throughout Switzerland. The fascination with the beauty of flowers led to the founders to start-up an online platform just a few months ago.

Now they would like to present the offer to everyone. Blossom up the living rooms, offices or reception desks, and take part of their passion. Made for people with style but little time: They select seasonal flowers or classic beauties every week for you. You can choose a subscription and let them do the rest. Delivery at your door - the next step for you is simply to enjoy. Have a look at their blog called Stars of the Week and get an impression of the beautiful bouquets. Subscribe to their newsletter and get flowers in your mail box weekly – and a discount of 30% on your first order.

From the Bloomstar blog: Calla is a very noble flower
Bild
We choosed Calla as our Stars of The Week because they offer a high durability and the soft shades emphasize the warmth and harmony of this elegant beauty.

The flower Calla is interpreted as a sign for immortality. Not only because of this meaning, the noble beauty is often used at weddings and makes the most wonderful day of a life to become perfect. In bunches or arrangements it nowerdays stands for modernity and elegance. Given as a present it's a symbol for beauty and appreciation. With the Calla you tell somebody “You fascinated me”, or “You are wonderful”.

Calla is shown to it’s fullest advantage and glory if presented on it's own. Put the single stems into a high glass jar and enjoy the beauty of this flower.

Care: Avoid too much water. Cut the stems straight and place them in clean water.

Ole Kretschmann and Patrick Frank have been collaborating for the best part of a decade. They share a vision of providing a stage that's open and equal to all voices, engaging with a free community of listeners. So they put a team together and founded Voice Republic. It allows users to live stream and archive audio content, from big conferences to one-on-one interviews, from university seminars to community radio shows. The tool is quick and easy to use: one microphone, one URL and the world can tune in. When the stream is stopped the recording is automatically archived on the user's page.

Ole and Patrick are passionate about free speech, open knowledge and connecting communities of listeners and speakers. They are also strong advocates for an open and anonymous internet. Both come from artistic backgrounds, Patrick is a composer of new music and a cultural theorist. Ole is a writer and craftsman, but also the man behind Berlin's analogue photo booth revival. In his own words:

'This is our contribution towards an internet that stands for freedom of speech - we let you speak. We are unlocking a new and exciting field of content-publishing - the spoken word audio. Our start-up isn't about problem-solving - it is about creating dialogue, discussion and discourse. VR is a tool to do just that'

Voice Republic is still in year one after launch. The team, based jointly in Zurich and Berlin, have stuck up partnerships with a number of key conference organisers in both countries - notably Berlin's prestigious re:publica - and has already begun it's drive for users and integration in the US. A major rebuild of the site goes online at the end of October with a feast of new features and improved functionality.

Dislike at the Startup Weekend Creative Business!

Startup Weekend Creative Business – sounds good! But who is it for? To answer this question we present you one of the participants: the Dislike magazine with Katja Zellweger, Sarah Pia and Rebekka Gerber.

Nowadays, there is a lot of euphemism and stressing the positive when communicating. This is what the three founders of the Dislike magazine want to change. Coming from a bachelor’s thesis in times where everything can be “liked”, Dislike wants to kick off argumentation and critical thinking in order to push constructive and positive criticism. A variety of people are contributing to this plan through differently presented articles.

Why is Dislike at the Startup Weekend Creative Business?

The primary question the three founders see themselves confronted with is: How can you generate sustainable revenue with Dislike? The team of three is looking forward to interesting inputs from specialists on their field, but also to new ideas and contacts at the Startup Weekend Creative Business. Furthermore they are open to propositions regarding structuring and professionalizing, as well as handling the budgeting better and planning with a higher time horizon. Most of all they are not specialized in the fields of finance, marketing and distribution and want to benefit from the Startup Weekend Creative Business.

Are you in a similar situation? Do you need insights in specific fields? Or do you have great inputs or background knowledge? Then sign up for Startup Weekend Creative Business – Let us achieve great things together.

PASSION AS A LIFESTYLE

Marcel Angelo Walker – coffee roaster and creative jack-of-all-trades.

For Marcel, doing the things he is most passionate about always came naturally. He is happy with his job as a coffee roaster, but after eight hours of work his day is far from being over: His free time is dedicated to his manifold interests. He likes to spend his hours reading a good book, doing some wood carving or emergency aid training with his dog until the cats become jealous. His house and garden need some attention too, as does the atelier - if he is not too busy making masterful cocktails as a barkeeper.

For Marcel, living his passions is essential: “You only live once. Following your passion means making the best out of your time.” As he is skilled in craftsmanship, he likes to work with his hands. An office job or party nights every weekend would never suit him. Salary is secondary, if you get up in the morning and are really looking forward to the new day, he says.

If you think that one has to pursue his passions and even make it a day job, the Startup Weekend Creative Business might be just what you need. Sign up now!

Stefano Foscaldi, founder of YoungFounders – The Startup Network

Stefano is passionate about business opportunities and making them happen. Early on he realised that his skill of thinking up visionary ideas alone was not enough. It required something more: the right people to make it happen. He cofounded YoungFounders.net, a company aiming to bring together the right people at the right time for a specific business venture. He used his talent in HR to create connections that would be beneficial and lasting. That is what YoungFounders is all about.

Stefano says that he found his passion connecting people for business, as he does not have all the skills to take and pursue the opportunities he sees. Not yet working full time on it, his passion his gradually becoming  a job.
Stefano is convinced that you have to live your passion. He says: “It is fun to work, if you are pursuing your passion. You can work harder, longer and more days a week but still like what you do. Isn’t this amazing? And if you get to earn money with it, that’s the jackpot!” You do have a passion as well? At startup weekend creative business we aim at creating an event which enables you to develop your own idea that belongs or connects to the fields of creative industries. But what do we mean by creative industries?

What is a creative business?

Are you a designer, an artist or a professional writer? Then you most probably already know that you belong to the sector of economy which we call creative industries. According to the UK Government Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) influential definition, they „have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property". Its 12 sectors are:

Ok, that’s an UK Definition, but what about good old Switzerland?

To give you a local example of the importance of creativity in economy, let’s have a look at this: In 2010, Christoph Weckerle and Hubert Theler from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) released the 3rd Report on the Creative Industries in Zurich. Commissioned by Stadt Zürich, Stadtentwicklung / Wirtschaftsförderung and Standortförderung des Kantons Zürich, it shows not only the current situation of the creative industries but also the political goal to support this economic sector in its growth. They found that the creative industries play an important role not only in the cultural development of a city but also in economics. Read more on it here: https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/prd/de/index/stadtentwicklung/wirtschaftsfoerderung/clusterstrategie/kreativwirtschaft.html and here: http://creativezurich.ch/zahlen-und-fakten/

Wanted: People with ideas.

If you're part of the creative industries or want to become a part of them as a startup, bring your idea to startup weekend creative business, form a team and start your journey!

BETWEEN PASSION AND PROFESSION

8/7/2014

Julius Bachmann, student at London Business School and co-founder of StartUp Weekend Switzerland

Julius is a passionate guitar player – for years, he has been writing, recording and performing music with various groups and solo. It is a difficult trade-off between a “normal” career and a creative one: Even when working hours increased, Julius set aside time for music on the weekends. He kept playing on stage and recorded more songs with his friends.

There is a way to integrate both your passion and your profession. Julius has experienced time and again that following a passion requires focus: When he co-founded StartUp Weekend Switzerland, he wanted to enable participants to dream big and start a project they are really passionate about.

“At StartUp Weekend Creative Business, you will get that rare opportunity to work on something you really identify with. With the help of amazing participants and inspiring coaches from around the country (and beyond!), you will kick-start that one project you always wanted to create but never found the courage to do so!” Julius will be around at StartUp Weekend Creative Business this October and he will be happy to meet you there!

Eva Pauline Bossow, co-founder of Konzertliebe

Eva is an entrepreneur in culture and arts and passionate about transforming emotional artistic moments into true love between people. At a young age already, she discovered her interest in cultural themes. While playing the guitar as a child and being a young actress, she still decided to study communication and business administration. However it was always clear to her, that she wanted to work in the cultural sector. By chance, during a market research project, she found her business idea for Konzertliebe and started living her passion.

Konzertliebe is an event format bringing together people through music. Konzertliebe plays with the highly emotional aspects of music and brings together singles at different high-class music events. Through Konzertliebe, Eva got the opportunity to live and share her passion for culture. She sees classical cultural activity depending too much on public subsidies and observes decreasing interest by the great public. By using the energy liberated by her passion, she is about to change this.

Eva is convinced that living oneʼs passion represents true fulfilment. But also she believes that one can only be outstanding, if he or she is passionate about what one is doing. To live your passion and to do outstanding things, Eva invites you warmly to the Startup Weekend Creative Business, sign up here.
